Tree Tomato

It has alternate leaves, entire, at the ends of the branches, with robust petiole 4 to 8cm long. the blade is 15 to 30cm long, oval-shaped, acuminate, dark green, a little rough to the touch. the young leaves have a fine pubescence on both sides. the ribbing is marked and protruding. the flowers are small, 1.3 to 1.5 cm in diameter, pinkish-white, arranged in small terminal clusters. they have 5 petals and 5 yellow stamens.

It flowers in may-june. the fruit is an ovoid berry of 4 to 8cm x 3 to 5cm, withalongpeduncle in which the calyx of the flower persists. the skin is smooth, red or orange when ripe, with lighter colored stripes. the flesh is juicy, somewhat acidic, orange to red, with numerous seeds. the fruits are edible, and can be eaten raw directly or in salads or preferably cooked to prepare juices, sweets and desserts. they provide iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamins a, c and e.

Sweet Cucumber

It is a perennial shrub native to the andean region of peru and spread throughout south america, where it has been cultivated for thousands of years for its sweet fruit. although there are several varieties, this berry is generally oval, papaya-like, about 10 to 15 cm, golden yellow with purple veins when ripe.1 it is very refreshing for its high water content (92%), being similar in flavor and aroma to the melon cucumis melo, but the two plants are not related to each other. it has high percentages of vitamin c, a and carbohydrates.1

It is generally consumed directly as fresh fruit, but it can also be in salads on some occasions, in juices or more elaborate desserts.

Avocato

In the wild, the tree can reach heights of about 20 m, more commonly between 8 and 12 m, and a diameter at breast height of 30-60 cm, with an erect or twisted trunk. Planted trees, usually derived from grafting and subject to training pruning, show a very different appearance. crown: spreading, globular or bell-shaped, with low branches, young branches at first, yellowish-green, later turning dull and with prominent leaf scars. bark: rough, sometimes longitudinally furrowed.13

The trunk has a greenish-gray bark with longitudinal fissures. The leaves are alternate with petioles 2 to 5 cm long and the blade is generally glaucous on the underside. The leaves are narrowly elliptic, ovate or obovate, 8 to 20 cm by 5 to 12 cm and are coriaceous, green and sparsely pubescent on the upper side, although very densely on the underside, which is yellowish brown and where the central nerve is prominent.

Malanga - YAUTIA

Malanga is probably the most hypoallergenic food in the world, so even persons with extensive allergies should do very well with this flour. The reason? The starch grains are the smallest and most easily digested of all complex carbohydrates. Malanga is closely related to the taro root, which is used to make poi, a cooked paste, common in Polynesian countries. Malanga and taro root are in the Arum family, Araceae.

Malanga is also called yautia, cocoyam, eddo, tiquisque, tannia. Malanga are about the size and shape of a regular white potato; they look a little like an overgrown gladiola bulb, because the outside skin of the malanga is brown and somewhat hairy. There are about 1530 calories in one pound of malanga flour. The composition of malanga flour is approximately: 75.5% carbohydrates, 5.1% protein, 1.6% fat, 9.8% fiber, 1.2% water, and 6.8% minerals.

Yellow Dragon Fruit

PITAHAYA

● Description/Taste: Yellow Dragon fruit have an oblong shape and are slightly smaller in size than the more common red varieties. The fruits measure approximately 10 centimeters long and 7 centimeters wide. Their size depends on climatic conditions and are often categorized into three different size groups. Their thick yellow skin is covered in small knobby protrusions, which when immature displays small spines that will naturally fall off as the fruit matures. Beneath the skin is a dense white flesh containing numerous petite, edible black seeds. Yellow Dragon fruit has a crisp, juicy texture and very sweet, tropical flavor with floral hints and no acidity. 


● Seasons/Availability: Yellow Pitaya is available year-round with a peak in the early summer and fall months. 


● Current Facts: Yellow Dragon fruit are the fruits of a climbing cactus known for its large, fragrant flowers that bloom for only one to two nights. Botanically known as Selenicereus megalanthus or Hylocereus megalanthus, the fruits are also known as Yellow pitahaya or Pitaya Amarillo. This variety is considered the “real” Yellow Pitaya and is said to be the sweetest of all the dragon fruits.

Red Dragon Fruit

● General Information: Also known as the Pitaya, the Dragon Fruit is a stunningly beautiful fruit with an intense colour and shape, magnificent flowers and a delicious taste. Round, often red colored fruit with prominent scales. The thin rind encloses the large mass of sweetly flavored white or red pulp and small black seeds. Some varieties are pinkish or yellow. Native to Mexico and Central and South America, these vine-like epiphytic cacti are also cultivated in Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Malaysia. They are also found in Taiwan and Israel.

The red fleshed varieties contain lycopene which is a natural antioxidant known to fight cancer, heart disease, and lower blood pressure.
