TREE TOMATO

It has alternate, entire leaves at the ends of the branches, with a robust petiole 4 to 8cm long. The leaf is 15 to 30 cm long, oval in shape, acuminate, dark green in color and a little rough to the touch. young leaves have fine pubescence on both sides. The ribs are marked and prominent. The flowers are small, 1.3 to 1.5 cm in diameter, pinkish white, arranged in small terminal clusters. They have 5 petals and 5 yellow stamens.

Blooms in May-June. The fruit is an ovoid berry measuring 4 to 8cm x 3 to 5cm, with a long peduncle in which the calyx of the flower persists. The skin is smooth, red or orange when ripe, with lighter colored stripes. The pulp is juicy, somewhat acidic, orange to red in color, with numerous seeds. The fruits are edible, and can be consumed raw directly or in salads or preferably cooked to prepare juices, sweets and desserts. They provide iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamins A, C and E.
